A look back at the history of Grindhouse Cinema

We don’t want to pop anyone’s bubble, but yes, Grindhouse Cinema existed before Quentin Tarantino! Like a 21st Century punk bank making millions off of retreads of the kind of earth shattering music the Ramones created, so too has Quentin Tarantino made a name for himself regurgitating the best ingredients Grindhouse films had to offer and then homogenizing it into a palatable offering for the new millennial multiplex masses. Sure, a case can be made that he is just bringing the films he loves to a new generation, but I am starting to see it more as a crutch in his later films, than a flash of inspiration. But this article is not about Quentin Tarantino, this article is about the origins of a particular type of film called Grindhouse Cinema.
