Planetary artist John Cassady's already high profile will continue this month when his and writer John Ney Rieber's relaunched Captain America series debuts later this month, and now fans old and new will get a first chance to see Cassaday's work at an early stage in his career.
Asylum Press informs Newsarama that in June they will publish a never-before-seen 10-page black & white story Cassaday drew (and inked by Asylum's Frank Forte) in 1995. A comic adaptation of horror author Robert S. Rhine's short story "Spare Parts", the story was originally suppose to see print in CFD Productions horror anthology Insidious Tales #3, but that series was cancelled before the story ever saw print and has sat in the Asylum Press vaults since. They'll dust it off for publication in June's Selected Readings From Satan's Powder Room #1.
"Spare Parts" is John Cassaday raw and uncensored," said Forte. "Before John hit the big-time he worked for the small press and this is John at his finest".
Here's how Asylum describes the premiere issue of the quarterly anthology title:
"Welcome to Selected Readings From Satan's Powder Room. The premiere issue of this twisted horror anthology delivers three tales of terror by acclaimed horror author Robert Steven Rhine (My Brain Escapes Me). In the first leg of the trilogy, "Spare Parts", illustrated by John (Planetary) Cassaday, a lonely embalmer enjoys a morbid hobby... Next, you're invited to "The Symposium', illustrated by Frank Forte (Vampire Verses), where intellectual vampires dine with the world's most fertile minds... And finally, we sew things up with "The Tattoo Artist", illustrated by Rich Longmore (Iron Guns) about a frustrated tattoo artist who gets his first art exhibit, after reclaiming his life's work."
